I liked the look of most of the ships in HW2, but the performance of some of them was just...
I only regularly used Torpedo and Ion Cannon Frigates... because the Flak, Defense Field, and Marine Frigates were crap-tacular. I didn't even bother capping Vaygr ships because it was too much of a hastle... the exact opposite of what I did for the first game. (I had an average ship-count of 300 by the time I reached Hiigara!)
I kept one squadron of Scouts, and made all my other Fighter-class as Bombers, because the Interceptors were weak against their own kind, and the Gunships & Torpedo Frigates were better anti-Fighter anyways. I kept a 6/5-mix of Gunships/Pulsar Gunships. I maxed-out all of my Capital-class (I only used one carrier for all of the first game!), and rarely used Platforms because they died too easily.
Nah, the DFF is a great ship - especially when you use it right in multiplayer - Vaygr players are mad when their X-dozens of torpedoes are stopped by defense field # I also used only one carrier... and through almost whole game it haven't moved away from MS.
I would use the Carrier mostly for close-range capture missions- so that I could quickly get my Salvage Corvettes back into action.
EXAMPLE A: In Tannhauser Gate (Mission 13?), I took...
1x Carrier 1x Heavy Cruiser +6 Support Frigates (all that I could possibly muster) +10 Salvage Corvettes +5 Repair Corvettes (one per pair of Salvage)
...and went Ion Cannon Frigate-trawling for about 3hrs. (The Heavy Cruiser is slow, but its heaviest armor was essential to this entrapment strategy, ya know what I mean?)
If done correctly, I could capture all 200 ICFs and all ships larger than a Corvette in that mission. Then, when I got to Hiigara, I had upwards of 250 ion-powered ships placed in a Neutral-posture Sphere Formation around the Mothership. Looked like a X-mas ornament when all those beams went off in an Alpha Strike on even arrant Heavy Cruisers! And then I had all my anti-Fighter stuff and repair ships running around the inside of the sphere taking care of the rest. It was epic!
A shame that salvaging & repair tactics like that didn't work in the later games...
yea... very true... it's a shame that it also didn't work in almost any other game... ever >_> The Homeworld was trulry epic in that matter... back in '99 my PC couldn't handle that - ba! It even couldn't handle the Kadeshi mission well - it was hardly playable and back then I couldn't pass it But after 10 years it holds the line, hehe
Genialna robota. Powinieneś robić tego więcej, masz talent. Miło by było zobaczyć podobny opis Higarańskiego krążownika. Swoją drogą, ile ci tak mniej więcej zajmowało zrobienie tego opisu (biorąc pod uwagę poszczególne części)?
